What makes OLYFO different?

Last reviewed 8 August 2026.

We own the chain and we sell the finished bottle. Our groves are in Kairouan and Zaghouan, we press in Kairouan and Jammel, and we bottle and store at partner facilities in Jammel and Mornag. In the 2025/26 season 86.3% of Tunisia’s olive oil exports left the country in bulk. High-grade Tunisian oil leaves anonymously and comes back on someone else’s label. We are on the other side of that number, and everything below follows from it.

Four differences that show up in a quotation

  1. We can tell you where the oil came from. Grove, variety, press, date. A trading house passes on the specification it was handed. We wrote ours, and the certificate of analysis for your lot travels with the goods.
  2. Same-day pressing. Olives picked in November and December go to the mill the day they are picked. The gap between picking and pressing is the single biggest determinant of free acidity, and it is why our oils sit at 0.4% and 0.5% rather than at the 0.8% legal ceiling for extra virgin.
  3. We publish our own price index. OleaIndex is our daily Tunisian extra virgin index for Chemlali from Kairouan and Chetoui from Zaghouan. We publish it on the days it does not flatter us. Suppliers who want you comparing prices are a different kind of supplier from those who want you not to.
  4. We build brands, not just fill bottles. Private label from three pallets per SKU, with the packaging, the label compliance and the format work included rather than quoted as extras. See starting your own olive oil brand.

What the medals actually tell you

Gold at the London International Olive Oil Competition 2025, gold at Olio Nuovo Days Paris 2025, gold at ONH Tunisia 2025, silver at NYIOOC New York 2025, silver at Canada IOOC 2022, and bronze at London and Canada IOOC 2021. These are blind tastings. Nobody in the room knew whose oil it was. That is a genuinely different kind of evidence from a testimonial, and it is why we lead with it — but it says nothing about food safety systems, which is what our certifications are for.

What we are not

Worth saying plainly, because it saves everyone time.

  • We are not the cheapest. Oil pressed the same day it is picked, from our own groves, at half the legal acidity ceiling, is not the cheapest oil in Tunisia and never will be. If price is the only variable, a bulk trader will beat us.
  • We are not a shop. This is pallet and container business. Minimums are one pallet per SKU on our own brands, three pallets per SKU for private label, and one 20-foot container for bulk.
  • We do not sell flavoured oil. We used to list an agrumato-style range. We dropped it.
  • We do not publish prices. Because they would be wrong within weeks. Here is how pricing actually works instead.

The other half of the business

Poppa Peppa is our Tunisian antipasti range: traditional smoked harissa, Berber harissa, meshouia, olives, artichokes and sundried tomatoes, in 220 g and 320 g jars, without preservatives or chemical additives. Buyers who take our oil often take these too, on the same pallet and the same paperwork.
