Fried fritters stuffed with a tomato sauce, tuna, potatoes, black or green olives and eggs… without forgetting the harissa!
A very popular sandwich in Tunisia and especially in the coastal city “mahdia”, with a filling of turmeric Omelette, a salad “slata mechiwa”, harissa and crumbled tuna. A real delight!
Ps: The combination between the “slata mechwia” and the harissa is only recommended for spicy food lovers
They are pancakes which have the particularity of having a paste prepared from very fine semolina, olive oil, warm water and salt, filled with savory fillings as salads, cheese, onion, tomato, hard boiled egg, tuna… and of course harissa !
The best part of it is that if you feel hungry you can ask to have a double or even a triple Mlawis in your sandwich.
Ps: Mlawi can be eaten also on its own or as a sweet sandwich, but the very traditional Tunisian way is to enjoy it with only olive oil and honey.

The bambalouni is a ring-shaped doughnut which is eaten naturally or sprinkled with sugar or honey. The best place to find it is in Sidi bou said, a destination where you can enjoy the bambalouni along with a wonderful sunset view.

It is a chickpeas soup with bread, cumin and olive oil. You can add harissa, tuna, olives…
It is the king of dishes, fast and cheap, warming and very nutritious; the chickpeas are rich in vegetable protein, vitamins and dietary fiber, and as for olive oil, which is the second key ingredient in lablabi, it is a rich source of antioxidants that help prevent many diseases.
That’s why some Tunisians make it a daily must during the cold season !
